What Is Wheel Refurbishment?
At Aerocoat, we offer a full refurbishment service for car and motorcycle wheels. Powder coating is an excellent way to revitalize your car or motorcycle wheels combining durability with style. With over 20 years of experience powder coating wheels for trade and the general public, we pride ourselves on offering a bespoke and durable finish with a quick turnaround. Whether you are having issues with tyre sealing, curb damage, flat spots or they are just starting to look a bit tired, we have enough experience to offer a solution to get your wheels looking their best.
As one of the many other services we offer, we can also remove/refit your tyres prior to and after we carry out any remedial work, plus we also offer our Diamond Cutting Service, which can transform the appearance of your wheels from plain ordinary to extra-ordinary.
The Process
All wheels are chemically stripped back to bare metal and then inspected for any cracks, salt damage, curb damage or buckles. All curb damage is removed. We will consult the customer in the event that any cracks or buckles are discovered (refer to FAQ below). Your wheels will then be media blasted to remove any grit inclusion. Zinc primer is applied for corrosion protection. Your wheels will then be powder coated in your choice of colour & finish from the extensive range available, after which they are finally lacquered. In the case of Diamond Cutting, the wheels are affixed firmly on a special lathe, which allows us to accurately machine them, removing a small layer from the alloy surface in pre-determined areas. This produces an incredibly smooth surface, which can then be polished to a mirror finish, if desired, before being sealed with a UV resistant clear lacquer. For a more detailed explanation of the diamond cutting process, please refer to the relevant section on our website under ‘Our Services’.
Cracked wheels can be repaired with a straight forward weld. This can impact the durability of a wheel so we will always advise our customers to keep an eye on wheels once welded.
With all our basic colours (silvers, blacks, graphites, gold etc.) we will always endeavour to have them completed within 2-3 working days of them being dropped off to us. This may vary at peak times. If your wheels our being delivered to us by courier and we are returning them to you via courier, please allow at least 3 working days for the return postage. For more elaborate colours (e.g. Aeromax™ or candy colours) or if you opted for our Diamond Cutting Service, please contact us for an estimated turnaround, as during busy periods these can take a bit longer to complete.
Whilst more variety is available in paint, powder is by far and away the most durable and long lasting finish available for your wheels. Also unlike many paint refurbishments, we re-coat the whole wheel allowing for a good tyre seal and a more reliable overall finish.
